World Music Day was first celebrated in France in 1982. It was organized by the then French Minister of Culture, Jacques Lang. On the day of the summer solstice, Jack Lang reunited with Maurice Fleurier and founded the Fete de la Musique in Paris. This is also the reason why World Music Day is also known as Fete de la Musique. Fleuret was the main man behind the initiation and organization of World Music Day. He was a French composer, music journalist, and radio producer by profession.

After France recognized this as an event, it became a world festival, and countries such as India, Italy, Brazil, Japan, China, the United States, Mexico, Canada, Malaysia, Greece, Russia, Ecuador, Australia, Peru and the United Kingdom, are also noted today in a similar capacity. Today, hundreds of cities celebrate this day with great enthusiasm.

To celebrate this day, people from musical backgrounds, both veterans and emerging artists, come out to showcase their talents. On this day, free concerts are organized for everyone to attend. It is a huge cultural exchange and brings the community closer as well.
We wish everyone a Happy World Music Day!
