Mohan Kapur confirms big-screen role in Brie Larson-Iman Vellani’s ‘The Marvels’: The Khan family is intrinsic to ‘Captain Marvel’ sequel – Times of India

The new series “Mrs. Marvel,” starring Iman Fellaini in the lead, has fans all over the world rooting for the first South Asian champion in the MCU. Besides introducing us to the beginning of Kamala Khan’s hero’s journey, the series also highlights her close-knit family as Mohan Kapoor plays the lovable father Yusuf Khan and Zenobia Shroff who plays conservative mother Munibeh Khan.

Kapur, who has a huge following for his desi Hulk getup in Episode 2, spoke candidly with ETimes about all the love he’s received since the series debuted early this month. “It’s all surprising because usually when you play a supporting role for a father, you don’t expect to get a lot of recognition and accolades,” Kapoor says, “what I get is unreal. I go like ‘What?’ truly? Do they watch the same thing I did?” My friends told me my life would change after that because Marvel has a completely different, loving fan base. I think they’ve proven themselves right and I don’t know how to act.”

If you thought it was just the Desi community showering the actor with love, you’d think it was wrong. “The amazing thing is that love comes from different parts of the world. It’s coming from Hollywood, Spain, Italy, Africa and all kinds of places you didn’t realize they were watching this show. The fact that they have such an appreciation for the paternal character is amazing,” he says.

Speaking of society and the family, Mohan believes that “this family as one” is what the book created, making the story expressive, modern and new.

“You don’t see South Asian families being represented in a Hollywood story, especially a Marvel story. I watched Episode 4 with a friend and I asked ‘Did you ever think Hollywood and Marvel would play Indian music in it?'” “This is crazy,” Kapoor says.

Now that he’s officially the first Indian actor to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we had to ask if we’d see more of him as Yusuf Khan in Kamala’s first big-screen project – The Marvels. “Oh yes!” He says with a smile and continues to reveal details from Brie Larson’s upcoming major movie.

Mohan reveals, “The Khan family is very central to the ‘Captain Marvel’ sequel called ‘The Marvels’. We’re going to London to complete the movie. The Khan family is there while their daughter is saving the universe.”

Sharing some comical tales of everything in store for this family and their superhero daughter, Kapoor adds, “The Khan family is a typical South Asian family.” Ari Mera Bacha Kaha Ja Raha Hai? “…” Pita Koch Kaya? Sleep in time Han… “All this while she’s out to save the world.”

The Marvels movie, set for release in 2023, will be a sequel to the $1 billion Captain Marvel movie. The film was promoted to bring Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) and Monica Rambo together on the big screen for the first time. While Brie’s Captain Marvel debuted on the big screen, Iman’s Ms Marvel was introduced in its standalone series, and Teyonah Parris’ Monica was introduced in the Emmy Award-winning WandaVision series starring Elizabeth Olsen in the lead.
