Raju Gopi started his peanut business with 5,000 rupees on hand 28 years ago, but always dreamed of making a movie.

Malayalam producer Raju Gopi Chitth Santacruz’s latest movie was released in theaters on July 1. Noreen Sharif plays the lead role in the film, which is based on the journey of a dance troupe from Kerala. He recently revealed at an event promoting film producer Gopi how difficult it was to complete this project and his video went viral.

Raju Gopi said that his movie is the result of his hard work and he started planning the movie with only Rs 5,000 in his pocket. The producer also revealed that in the past when he ran his own peanut business, he had a strong desire to make a movie once.

“My mother-in-law gave me 5,000 rupees twenty-eight years ago. I started the business with this money. During 1974-1976, I did kapalandi (peanut) business in Chennai,” revealed Raju Gopi.

In 1974, Kannappanunni hit theaters in Chennai and the ticket price was 50 baisa. Raju Gopi eagerly wanted to see the movie. Went 14 times but never got a ticket. Later he got the ticket, but when that break was, he left thinking the movie was over. He had a dream of making movies ever since.

“I didn’t get support from anyone and did all of this on my own. Everyone questioned my ability to make it work with new faces. I said it wasn’t a problem and I still had my own business. I’d do it for a living,” he added.

Santacruz is similar to Bollywood Dance films such as ABCD and Dil To Pagal Hai, which depict stories of love and rivalry in the background of dance competitions. There is also Madhuri Dixit and Karishma Kapoor-style dance in the film. The story of the film is based entirely on friendship, love and rivalry.
