Resul Pookutty Gets Flak for Calling Ram Charan- Jr. NTR’s Film RRR ‘Gay Love Story’ and Alia Bhatt a ‘Prop’

Ram Charan Jr. NTR and Alia Bhatt starrer RRR has emerged as one of the most successful films of the post-pandemic era. However, it seems that Academy Award winner and sound designer Resul Pookutty did not like the direction of SS Rajamouli. Recently, he took to Twitter to call this blockbuster a “gay love story”, causing internet outrage.

It just so happened that actor and writer Monish Bharadwaj publicly criticized RRR as a “garbage” movie on Sunday 3rd July. This didn’t sit well with a section of the internet that went to the film’s defense microblogging site.

While many expressed not expecting such a comment from an Academy Award winner, others reprimanded it for engaging the LGBTQ community as a trolling comment. “No shame and no harm even if it is this kind of #LGBT story. I did not expect such low comments from an Oscar winner. The profession should be respected regardless of its language and even if it does not please us,” one Twitterati user wrote.

The tweet war didn’t end there. Resul Pookutty also had something to say about actress Alia Bhatt who had limited screen time in the movie. According to him, the Student of the Year fame star was only used as a “prop” to promote the movie. “And @alay08 is a mainstay in this movie,” he wrote in another tweet.

Directed by SS Rajamouli, apart from Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Alia Bhatt, the actor also stars Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran in pivotal roles. The plot of the film revolves around the lives of two revolutionaries and soul brothers who turn into enemies only to unite to fight for their country against British oppression.

Upon its release on March 25, 2022, the RRR was a huge success with its total collection exceeding Rs 1,000 crore. After her theatrical success, RRR began streaming on the OTT platform Netflix and ZEE5.
