Actor Rakul Preet Singh has been working around a choppy schedule on the one hand and directing back-to-back releases on the other. After Attack and Runway 34, she was recently seen in a music video called Mashooka, which was released in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. Described as the first pan-Indian single, the pop song has an elegant vibe, featuring Singh in a very charming avatar.
For the 31-year-old, it has proven to be a bridge that helped her reconnect with her Southern fans. In an exclusive conversation with News18, she said, “When we were making the song, we thought why not make it in Telugu and Tamil too? So, Mashooka is a little homage to my Telugu and Tamil speaking fans, who have given me so much love over the years and still do.”
Singh, who started her acting career with the Kannada film Jelly (2009), worked frequently across the Telugu and Tamil film industries until she became busy with it. Bollywood Projects where shows started pouring in after the release of De De Pyaar De (2019). She continued to appear in Southern films, although not as often as before.
Looking to make more Southern films, she says, “I miss them as much as they do me. But there’s very little I can do at this point. Luckily, I have the films I’m working on and will definitely work in a Telugu or Tamil movie if something really cool happens, Something I’ve never done before, on my way. I’m just enjoying a new field at the moment, but Telugu cinema will always be my first love.”
Mashooka marks her second collaboration with beau, actor and producer Jackky Bhagnani, the music video being produced under his music banner, Jjust Music. Test it out if working together has added a new layer to their relationship and she says, “I don’t think there’s a new relationship dynamic just because we’ve worked together. At work, we’re very professional and understand this space.”
Singh, who is currently filming her next opposite actor Akshay Kumar In an untitled project produced by Bhagnani, he also adds, “When I was on the sets of Mashooka, I was simply ‘actor Rakul’ and he was ‘Producer Jackky’. We don’t confuse our professional and personal lives. He is very passionate about music and it’s always great to work with Jack.”
