Kalyan Ram-starrer Bimbisara hit theaters and the first few comments from Twitter users were hinting at an interesting historical drama with some great time travel elements. Also directed by Malidi Vasisht, it stars Catherine Teresa, Samyuktha Menon, Warina Hussain, Villela Kishore, among others. Let’s talk in depth about what the movie is about.
What is it about?
Bimbisara (Nandamuri Kalyan Ram) is the emperor of the Trigartala Empire. The cruel ruler goes to any lengths to get what he wants. He has a twin brother Devadatta (Kalyan Ram), who is the complete opposite of Bimbisara. After a quarrel between the two brothers, Bimbisara comes across a Mayadarpini (magic mirror), and while he touches it without releasing its powers, Bimbisara moves to the present time, 2022. The rest of the story is about how he adapts to the current world and gets his redemption.
Director Maldi Vasisht wrote his directorial debut after drawing inspiration from comic books such as Chandamama and Balamitra. Not only did he write the story, but Vasisht also managed to execute the script in the right way. It is worth mentioning that he succeeded in engaging the audience from the beginning of the film to its end. Especially Kalyan Ram’s characterization, that’s great.
Music and other sections?
MM Keeravani, who provided the background wallpaper for the movie, gave life to this movie by re-recording. However, the songs could have been better. After Vassisht, a special mention can be made of Chota K Naidu for his cinematography, which was apt.
It would have been better if more attention had been paid to making graphics. Editing by Tami Raju is good.
Bimbisara features a group of artists who play interesting roles. Speaking of Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, he has shown a new kind of fictional role, something that has not been done before in his acting career. His backstage performance in realizing the mistakes he made as a king in the past during his time in the modern era was impressive.
On the other hand, both the heroines – Catherine Teresa and Samyuktha Menon – did not leave much of an impression to talk about.
