The Rockstar director is often questioned about how he writes the female characters in his films. In a recent interview with Vice, Imtiaz Ali opened up about the roles women play. Ali was quoted as saying, “I am fascinated by women because they played a more oppressive and depriving role than men, and yet there was that smile and grace on their faces.” The famous director added that women are “smarter than men” by all accounts.
Imtiaz Ali stated that his film The Highway and the web series was about “Women Finding Their Agency”. However, Ali went on to say that not every story could have the same assumption. Ali said, “Not every story can revolve around a woman finding agency. Why am I not allowed to mix stories of a different nature or that mean something else? I’m not here to actually tell people how to live their lives.”
